At the graduate level students may be admitted to obtain the following degrees: Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
M.A.: The students who completed BA (Hon’s) degree successfully from the department of Arabic (DU) are allowed to pursue Master’s program at the Department. Usually the Department of Arabic does not allow graduates from other universities to get admission. Recently the graduate program in Arabic has been divided into two streams: (a) MA in Literature and (b) MA in Applied Linguistics and Arabic Language Teaching. The duration of Master’s program is one year, which is divided into two semesters. The students are required to take four full courses (4 credit) and one partial course (one credit) in each semester. Thus, total credit of master’s program is 34.
M.Phil. and PhD Program:
The Department of Arabic offers higher studies leading to M.Phil. and PhD. A number of M.Phil./PhD degrees have been conferred and a noteworthy number of students are now registered in these programs. Many researchers from different branches of Arabic Language and literature are interested to pursue their higher degrees at this department because of its enriched facilities of research.
